The literal meaning of Islam is peace — surrendering one’s will to God and seeking His pleasure above one’s own. The message of Islam was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) over 1,400 years ago through the Angel Jibreel. This revelation is preserved in the Holy Qur’an, which carries a divine guarantee of protection and contains the best guidance from earlier scriptures.
The central message of Islam is the Oneness of God — that the Creator is One, He alone is worthy of worship, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His Messenger. A follower of this belief is a Muslim. A Muslim also believes in God’s angels, His previously revealed books, all prophets from Adam to Jesus (peace be upon them), the Day of Judgement, and the Divine Decree.
A Muslim has five main duties: bearing witness to the Unity of God and the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him), performing the prescribed prayers, paying Zakat, fasting during Ramadhan, and performing the pilgrimage to Makkah.
Islam teaches that every person is born pure. The Qur’an explains that God has given human beings the choice between good and evil, and encourages them to seek His pleasure through faith, prayer, charity, and righteous conduct. By embodying God’s attributes at a human level — kindness, mercy, honesty, courage, patience, and politeness — a believer can attain nearness to God.
Islam emphasizes compassion toward all creation. Rights of parents, orphans, and the needy are clearly defined. Women’s rights were safeguarded 1,400 years ago, long before many societies recognized them. Islamic teachings address every aspect of life, offering universal principles that have stood the test of time.
Virtue in Islam does not mean abandoning lawful blessings. Instead, believers are encouraged to lead healthy, active lives while upholding moral excellence. The entire message of Islam is derived from the Qur’an and the Sunnah — the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These foundations are timeless and adaptable to every era.
Islam teaches that the path to spiritual development is open to all. Anyone who sincerely seeks the One Creator can draw near to Him through worship and devotion. This uplifting message fills hearts with hope and courage.
Today, Islam is the fastest‑growing faith in the world. With more than 1.5 billion followers, Muslims form the majority in over 50 countries, and the message of Islam continues to reach millions across the globe.
